The Western Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross is proud to host the 3rd Annual Race for the Red 5K Run/Walk! This race will be held in Watkins Park in Mt. Airy, MD. This race is designed for beginners to advanced runners.

Race Limit: 300 5K participants

Start: We will use a mass start for the 5K.

Timing: This event will be professionally chip timed using disposable bib tags on the back of the race bibs! Bibs must be worn on the front of your shirt and be visible at all times. Results will be provided by Racine Timing and will be available LIVE. We will provide a web link to results that you can share with your family and friends so they can follow your race on their web devices.

Event Rules: The race is on path ways and road ways. The roads are not closed to vehicular traffic so runners must be observant at all times.  Runners must obey all race official instructions.  Cones and signs will be used along the course. Volunteers and traffic control officers will be placed in key areas to help direct race traffic. Cutting the course or interfering with other athletes will result in disqualification.

Course

Description: This is a gently rolling course that uses paved paths and roads.

Timing:  This event will be professionally chip timed by Racine Timing!

Course: The 5K race is a multi surface race, which includes both pavement and gravel. Participants start at Watkins Park, pass through historic downtown Mount Airy, MD, continue on the newly developed Rails to Trails, and finish in Watkins Park.

Awards Ceremony Immediately following the event

Awards:
Immediately following the completion of the race there will be an awards ceremony for the 5K.

Awards include overall male and female and Age Group winners. Age Groups are as follows: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Directions From I-70 East:

  1. Follow I-270 N and I-70 E to MD-27 N/Ridge Rd. Take exit 68 from I-70 E
  2. Turn Left onto MD-27 N/Ridge Rd.
  3. Turn Left onto Center Street

Directions From I-70 West:

  1. Follow I-70 W to MD-27 N/Ridge Rd. Take exit 68 from I-70 E
  2. Turn Right onto MD-27 N/Ridge Rd.
  3. Turn Left onto Center Street
